WATER TREATMENT
PETROLEUM RESIDUE EXTRACTION FROM WATER
OVERVIEW
The harmful effects of oil spills, heavy metals and petrochemical residue on ecosystems are well established. The removal of these toxins however, remains a challenging, expensive task, often requiring years of tedious effort, whilst falling short of proper remediation.
Nanotechnology potentiates the effective remediation of damaged ecosystems. Examples entail: water treatment, new materials for pathogen detection as well as mitigation and protection of the environment from chemical and heavy metal contamination. The use of effective and non-toxic inorganic nanomaterial systems for environmental remediation, is a suggested effective approach. Particularly, the use of high performance quantum materials , which can be deployed in minute doses, for an effective outcome, with minimal waste
.
WHAT ARE QUANTUM MATERIALS ?
Quantum materials are unique category of nanomaterials that are typically have at least one dimension well below 20 nanometers (nm) in size and have heightened performance above standard nanomaterials (i.e. > 20 nm). They bring about new functionality, that is often not found in the regular form of the same material system, thus enabling their utilisation in a vast range of applications, whilst circumventing toxicity.
Quantum materials characterized by very high surface area to volume ratio, which enables an increase in their chemisorption capacity and effective performance as the particle size decreases.
The increase in surface area enables a reduction in the material volumes/dosage necessary for chemical extraction from various media. As such, quantum materials can be integrated within various remediation vessels, to achieve a significant enhancement of the performance of the technological system they're incorporated in.
Quantum Materials also come with a unique functionality, of being able to perform certain critical water-purifying functions, under operational conditions - i.e., antipathogenic activity in the dark. This means they can be utilised to mitigate fungi and bacteria-induced fuel degradation and or corrosion, under operational or storage conditions.
OUR SOLUTIONS
NANOARC offers inorganic, water insoluble atomically architectured quantum material nanopowders, for controlled dosage in contaminated aqeous media, to support the removal of microbes, prohibition of biofilm formation and the decontamination of toxic chemical residue.
Our quantum materials are designed to operate within broad pH ranges and temperatures. The nanopowders can be used to form pellets for filter beds or as additives for transparent coatings, to protect filter membrane, tubing, pipes, water and fuel storage tank interior as well as exterior surfaces.
